Two men have been arrested in Zambia for allegedly attempting to bewitch the country’s president, Hakainde Hichilema. The suspects, Jasten Mabulesse Candunde and Leonard Phiri, were taken into custody in the capital city of Lusaka.

Their alleged mission was to use charms to harm the president, who has been in office since 2021. The police statement revealed that the suspects were hired by Nelson Banda, the younger brother of MP Emmanuel “Jay Jay” Banda.

Nelson Banda is currently on the run, and his brother Emmanuel has been embroiled in controversy. Emmanuel was arrested in neighboring Zimbabwe over robbery charges, which he denies.

The opposition Patriotic Front party has alleged that these charges are politically motivated. This adds a layer of complexity to the situation, with many wondering about the motivations behind the alleged plot.

The suspects have been charged under Zambia’s Witchcraft Act with possession of charms, professing knowledge of witchcraft, and cruelty to wild animals. The police found them in possession of assorted charms, including a live chameleon.

Many people in Zambia believe in and live in fear of witchcraft, making this case all the more significant. The police are taking this case seriously, and it’s clear that they will leave no stone unturned in their pursuit of justice.

The suspects claimed they were promised over 2 million Zambian kwacha (£58,000; $73,000) for their mission. This large sum of money raises questions about the extent of the plot and who else may have been involved.

The suspects are currently being held in custody and will appear in court soon. The police have not yet announced an exact date for the hearing, but it’s expected to be soon.

The case has sparked widespread interest, with many wondering about the motivations behind the alleged plot. The police investigation is ongoing, and it remains to be seen what further details will emerge.

The people of Zambia are eager to see justice served and the safety of their president ensured. The outcome of this case will undoubtedly have far-reaching implications for the nation.

As the country waits for the court hearing, many are reflecting on the significance of this case. It highlights the ongoing struggles with witchcraft and superstition in Zambia, as well as the complexities of the country’s political landscape.

The police are urging citizens to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station. This is a crucial step in ensuring the safety and security of all citizens, and preventing similar plots in the future.

The investigation is a complex one, with many different factors at play. The police are working to uncover the truth behind the alleged plot, and to bring those responsible to justice.

The case is a reminder of the importance of upholding the rule of law and ensuring the safety and security of all citizens. The people of Zambia are watching closely, eager to see justice served and the truth revealed.
