Manchester City and Spain midfielder Rodri has been crowned the 2024 Men’s Ballon d’Or winner, a testament to his exceptional performances for both club and country in the 2023/24 season. This prestigious award solidifies Rodri’s position among the world’s top footballers.
Rodri’s outstanding season was marked by his pivotal role in Manchester City’s record fourth successive English Premier League title win. His leadership and skill on the pitch were instrumental in securing this impressive achievement. Additionally, Rodri led Spain to victory in UEFA EURO 2024, earning the tournament’s Player of the Award. This accolade underscores his ability to perform under pressure on the international stage.
The top ten finalists for the Men’s Ballon d’Or were also announced, featuring some of the world’s most talented players. Vinícius Júnior (Brazil, Real Madrid) secured second place, followed closely by Jude Bellingham (England, Real Madrid), Dani Carvajal (Spain, Real Madrid), and Erling Haaland (Norway, Manchester City). Rounding out the top ten were Kylian Mbappé (France, Paris Saint-Germain/Real Madrid), Lautaro Martínez (Argentina, Inter), Lamine Yamal (Spain, Barcelona), Toni Kroos (Germany, Real Madrid), and Harry Kane (England, Bayern München).
Other notable award winners were announced at the 68th Ballon d’Or awards ceremony. Aitana Bonmatí (Spain, Barcelona) took home the Women’s Ballon d’Or for the second consecutive year. Lamine Yamal received the Kopa Trophy, while Emiliano Martínez (Argentina, Aston Villa) secured the Yashin Trophy. Carlo Ancelotti (Italy, Real Madrid) was named Men’s Coach of the Year, and Emma Hayes (England, Chelsea/USA) claimed Women’s Coach of the Year. Real Madrid and Barcelona were recognized as Men’s and Women’s Club of the Year, respectively.
The Gerd Müller Trophy was jointly awarded to Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappé, acknowledging their impressive goal-scoring records. Jenni Hermoso (Spain, Tigres UANL) received the Socrates Award for her outstanding contributions to social responsibility.
This year’s ceremony marked a new era for the Ballon d’Or, as it was the first time the awards were co-organized by UEFA and Groupe Amaury, owner of France Football and L’Équipe. The event took place at the historic Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris on October 28, bringing together football’s elite to celebrate exceptional talent and achievement.
