By : Lloyd Mahachi

Prince William, Prince of Wales, will embark on a four-day trip to South Africa starting Monday, November 4. The visit aims to promote his Earthshot Prize, a multi-million dollar environmental initiative launched in 2020. Inspired by John F. Kennedy’s “moonshot” project, the prize seeks innovative solutions to combat climate change and environmental issues.

During his stay in Cape Town, Prince William will attend the annual Earthshot Prize awards ceremony, the United for Wildlife Global Summit, and meet with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa. This trip marks Prince William’s first visit to South Africa since 2010. He will travel alone, as his wife Kate is recovering from preventative chemotherapy for cancer.

The Earthshot Prize awards ceremony will take place on November 6, hosted by U.S. actor Billy Porter and South African TV presenter Bonang Matheba. The event will feature performances by Nigerian pop star Davido and Tanzanian singer Diamond Platnumz. Celebrities Heidi Klum and Nina Dobrev will announce the winners. Five winners will receive £1 million each to support their projects.

According to Kensington Palace, “This trip is a fantastic opportunity for His Royal Highness to shine a light on the incredible climate solutions being developed in Africa and around the world.” Prince William’s environmental initiative follows in the footsteps of his father King Charles’s environmental advocacy.

The Earthshot Prize has become a significant platform for promoting innovative solutions to environmental challenges. By recognizing and supporting groundbreaking projects, Prince William aims to inspire collective action and drive meaningful change. The ceremony promises to be an exciting celebration of creativity, human ingenuity, and artistry.
