Miss Rwanda 2022 in Trouble for Drunk Driving

By : Lloyd Mahachi

Miss Rwanda 2022, Divine Muheto, has found herself in serious trouble with the law. Recently, she was involved in a car accident after driving under the influence of alcohol. The incident occurred in Kigali, the capital city of Rwanda, when Muheto lost control of her vehicle and crashed into an electric pole and a palm tree.

Muheto was subsequently charged with several offenses, including driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without a valid license, and damaging public property. During her court appearance, she pleaded guilty to the charges but denied fleeing the scene of the accident. However, prosecutors alleged that she had indeed fled immediately after the incident, only returning later to retrieve her phones.

The court’s verdict was severe, handing Muheto a three-month suspended sentence and fining her 190,000 Rwandan francs. This sentence has sparked intense debate, with some arguing that it was too lenient considering the seriousness of the offenses.

As Miss Rwanda 2022, Muheto was awarded a brand-new car and a monthly stipend of 800,000 Rwandan francs. Additionally, she was entrusted with implementing a “beauty with a purpose” project aimed at making a positive impact on her community. However, her recent actions have raised questions about her suitability as a role model.

Muheto’s case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of responsible behavior, especially for public figures. Drunk driving is a serious offense that can result in devastating consequences, including loss of life and property damage. The court’s decision underscores the need for accountability, regardless of one’s social status.

The incident has also sparked a wider conversation about the responsibilities that come with holding a prestigious title like Miss Rwanda. Many are calling for Muheto to step down or be stripped of her title, citing her failure to uphold the values and standards expected of a beauty queen.

Ultimately, Muheto’s experience serves as a cautionary tale about the dangers of drunk driving and the importance of responsible behavior. It also highlights the need for public figures to lead by example and uphold the highest standards of integrity and accountability.
