John Dramani Mahama has been sworn in as Ghana’s president for the third time, marking a significant milestone in the country’s history.

This occasion is particularly notable, as Mahama is the first Ghanaian leader in the Fourth Republic to reclaim the presidency after being voted out.

Mahama’s inauguration took place on Tuesday, January 7, at the Independence Square in Accra, Ghana.

The ceremony was attended by various dignitaries, including representatives from West Africa’s regional bloc, ECOWAS.

Mahama, who previously served as Ghana’s president from 2012 to 2017, won the presidential election late last year.

His campaign focused on addressing the country’s economic crisis, corruption, and unemployment.

The 65-year-old leader has pledged to “reset” the country on various fronts, prioritizing the economy and appealing to young Ghanaians.

The presidential election was held against the backdrop of Ghana’s worst cost-of-living crisis in a generation.

The election was seen as a litmus test for democracy in a region shaken by extremist violence and coups.

Fortunately, the election was generally peaceful, with West Africa’s regional bloc, ECOWAS, praising the process.

Mahama’s victory has sparked optimism among Ghanaians, with many hoping that he will deliver on his campaign promises.

Andrew Takyi, founder of a local fintech company, Zee Pay, expressed his hopes that Mahama will use his proposed 24-hour economy to improve the country.

Innocent Appiah, a senior media research officer, anticipates that the Mahama administration will prioritize transparency and accountability in the extractive industry.

Enyonam Agble, a trader attending the inauguration, emphasized the need for Mahama to address corruption, stating that there was “so much corruption under President Akufo-Addo.”

Mahama’s administration will indeed face numerous challenges, including rebuilding the economy and restoring trust in government.

As Mahama begins his third term as president, Ghanaians are watching closely to see if he will deliver on his promises.

With the country facing numerous challenges, Mahama’s leadership will be crucial in shaping Ghana’s future.
