In a thrilling conclusion to its 19th season, America’s Got Talent has announced 55-year-old Richard Goodall as its latest winner.
The middle school janitor from Terre Haute, Indiana, took home the $1 million prize after delivering a stunning performance of Journey’s.
Goodall’s win was met with an outpouring of emotion, as judge Heidi Klum rushed on stage to hug him, followed by Simon Cowell.
“My life has changed! Two minutes can change your life,” an overwhelmed Goodall exclaimed.
Neal Schon, Journey’s lead guitarist, praised Goodall’s performance, saying, “He’s an amazing singer and man. I’m proud to be here for him.”
In an interview, Goodall revealed that he had “no expectations” going into the competition. “I just performed with fun and passion,” he said.
Goodall’s new wife, Ange, was his biggest supporter throughout the competition, accompanying him to the quarterfinals, semifinals and finale.
The prize money will significantly alter Goodall’s life. “It’s going to change our lives,” he said, revealing plans to buy a “nice little house” and retire comfortably.
Goodall hopes his story inspires others to chase their dreams, despite setbacks. Notably, he first auditioned for America’s Got Talent in 2009 but didn’t make the cut.
Tuesday’s finale featured an array of electrifying performances, including appearances by Simone Biles, Michael Bublé, Steve Aoki, comedian Gabriel Iglesias, and the Magic Mike Live Las Vegas cast.
The top 10 contestants returned for thrilling mashups, including the Detroit Youth Choir’s rendition of “High Hopes” by Panic! At The Disco.
With his remarkable journey, Goodall serves as a testament to perseverance and the power of following one’s dreams. From middle school janitor to million dollar winner, his story is an inspiration to many.
