Veteran South African gospel singer Solly Moholo, renowned for his iconic traditional gospel music, has passed away at 65 after a lengthy hospitalization following a stroke and multiple organ failure. His legacy as a trailblazer in the South African music industry will be deeply missed.

Solly Moholo, whose full name is Solomon Molokoane, rose to fame in the early 2000s with an array of hits, including “Die poppe sal dans,” “Ka letsatsi labofelo,” and “Tsoha Jonase.” These soul-stirring songs not only topped local charts but also cemented his status as a gospel music icon. His management described him as leaving behind “healing music” that will continue to inspire and uplift generations to come.

Moholo’s family announced his passing on October 2, 2024, after a public appeal for funds to cover his medical expenses. The outpouring of support from fans, fellow gospel singers, and friends has been immense, with many paying tribute to the late gospel star. They praised his soulful music, energetic live performances, and unwavering dedication to spreading the word of God.

The African National Congress (ANC) hailed Moholo as a true icon in the South African music industry, saying his powerful voice, passion, and commitment to uplifting spirits through his music will forever be remembered. The South African government also paid tribute, saying Moholo will “live forever in the hearts of South Africans.” Various artists and industry leaders have echoed these sentiments, celebrating his impact on the gospel music scene.

Throughout his illustrious career, Moholo earned numerous accolades, including prestigious music awards. His contributions to South African gospel music have been invaluable, paving the way for future generations of artists.

Moholo’s family has requested privacy to mourn and prepare for his burial, asking fans to respect their wishes during this difficult time. Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.

As South Africa mourns the loss of this legendary gospel singer, his music remains a testament to his enduring legacy, inspiring hope, faith, and healing.
