The football world is in shock following the heartbreaking death of Liverpool star Diogo Jota, who died at age 28 in a fiery car accident in Spain. The tragic incident also claimed the life of his brother, Andre Jota, a fellow professional footballer.
According to reports by Spanish outlet Marca, the fatal crash occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning in the Zamora province of northwestern Spain. Their vehicle is said to have veered off the road and caught fire, which rapidly spread to the surrounding vegetation. Despite the swift response of emergency services, both brothers were declared dead at the scene.
Diogo Jota, who transferred to Liverpool from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020 for £41 million, played 182 matches and scored 65 goals for the Reds. He was instrumental in the club’s recent successes, contributing to victories in the Premier League, FA Cup, Community Shield, and two Carabao Cup triumphs.
The tragedy comes just weeks after Jota tied the knot with his longtime partner, Rute Cardoso, on June 22. The couple shared three children, adding another layer of sorrow to the devastating loss.
