U.S. President Donald Trump has commented on Elon Musk’s departure from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), affirming that the entrepreneur will continue to remain close to the administration.
On his Truth Social page, Trump wrote:
“Today marks his last day, but not really, because he will always be with us, lending his support every step of the way. Elon is fantastic!”
Trump also announced that he and Musk will hold a joint press conference in the Oval Office on May 30 at 1:30 p.m. local time (8:30 p.m. Kyiv time).
Musk had previously confirmed his departure from DOGE, hinting at a renewed focus on his own ventures, including Tesla and SpaceX.
During the 2024 elections, Musk was a vocal supporter of Trump, contributing nearly $300 million and emerging as one of the campaign’s top donors. Following Trump’s victory, Musk served as an advisor and a leading figure in DOGE. However, tensions emerged in April, including disagreements with the Secretary of the Treasury and his absence from a classified Pentagon briefing. Trump suggested disbanding DOGE, and Musk indicated plans to reduce his political involvement to concentrate on his business enterprises.
Elon Musk’s exit marks the conclusion of his intense campaign within the Trump administration to boost government efficiency, a mission that ultimately fell short of achieving the desired cost-saving measures.
