China has committed to contributing an additional $500 million to the World Health Organization (WHO) over the next five years, according to an announcement made by Liu Guozhong, Vice Premier of the State Council, during the World Health Assembly in Geneva on Tuesday.
Liu reaffirmed China’s continued support for the global health agency, which is currently grappling with financial uncertainty following the United States’ decision to withdraw its funding.
“The world is currently confronting the consequences of unilateralism and power politics, which pose significant threats to global health security,” Liu said. “Multilateral cooperation remains the most effective path to overcoming these global challenges.”
