King Misuzulu has abruptly cancelled his wedding to his third wife, Nomzamo Myeni, which was scheduled to take place on January 26 at the KwaKhangelamankengane Royal Palace. The wedding had been marred in controversy after the king’s first wife, Queen Ntokozo Mayisela, sought an interdict to stop the wedding, citing their existing civil marriage.
The controversy surrounding the wedding had been brewing for some time, with many questioning the king’s decision to take a third wife while still being married to his first wife. The situation had become increasingly complicated, with the king’s first wife seeking legal action to prevent the wedding from taking place.
In a letter dated January 18, 2025, the king notified the KZN office of the premier director general, Dr Nonhlanhla Mkhize, of his decision to call off the wedding. The king also revoked all benefits and bodyguards assigned to his future wife, Nomzamo Myeni, effective immediately.
The king’s decision to cancel the wedding has been seen as a move to avoid further controversy and potential legal repercussions. The urgent application for Queen Ntokozo Mayisela to interdict the king was set to be heard at the Pietermaritzburg High Court on January 20, but the king’s decision to call off the wedding has rendered the application moot.
In addition to cancelling the wedding, the king has also made other significant changes within the royal household. On January 18, the king fired his spokesman, Prince Simphiwe Zulu, citing his unavailability and failure to provide timely and accurate official comments to the media.
The king’s decision to cancel the wedding and make changes within the royal household has sent shockwaves throughout the kingdom. Many are left wondering what this means for the future of the royal family and the kingdom as a whole.
The controversy surrounding King Misuzulu’s wedding has also raised questions about the role of tradition and culture in modern society. The king’s decision to take a third wife, despite being married to his first wife, has sparked debate about the relevance of traditional practices in contemporary times.
As the kingdom navigates this complex and sensitive situation, many are watching with bated breath to see how events will unfold. One thing is certain, however: the cancellation of King Misuzulu’s wedding has sent shockwaves throughout the kingdom, and its impact will be felt for a long time to come.
